What God Do You Worship?

 by Paul Fisher  01/26/03

It's Sunday afternoon and thousands of people are gathered to worship their god. Millions of others around the world will be worshiping their god through the means of television. This god demands sacrifice on the part of his followers. He demands that they sit in worship to him for several hours at a time, sometimes in extreme weather conditions. For seats in this god's house of worship a very Few wealthy followers are. very nice and conrfortable, but for the majority of his followers the seats do not even have backs on them. Yet for many of his followers, no sacrifice seems too great or unreasonable. Worship is done by just a few men who are the center of attention throughout the whole service. This god's worshipers, for the most part, are fanatics who are willing to spend much money, just for the chance to get into one of the houses of worship for this god.

By now most of you know that I am speaking of football and that this article is to draw attention to the fact that for many people this is Super Bowl Sunday. Now don't get me wrong, I like football and enjoy watching it very much, but for me it is just a game and not a god. Yet, many Christians will not attend worship services this evening in order to watch this game. Several churches of Christ have changed their evening meeting times, or are having speciii services, to accommodate those members who would want to worship the god of football rather than the only true and living God. It's super Sunday and we Christians need to remember what makes this Sunday super, and every Sunday super, JESUS!
