Here is one of the most important questions that any Christian can answer. Am I, as a Christian, abiding in the vine of Jesus Christ? In other words, as a Christian am I staying steadfast to the word of God and am I bearing fruit? Notice the passage of scripture where these thoughts come from. In John 15, Jesus said, "I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman." Jesus is the Christian's source for all spiritual nourishment and as a matter of fact, Jesus is the world's only source for spiritual nourishmint. Jesus is the only way to the Father (John 14:6). Peter, by inspiration of God, proclaimed to the Jewish leadership that salvation was only in, or through, the name of Jesus (Acts 4:12). Jesus is the only source opened to man so that man can receive forgiveness of sins and be reconciled to God. Jesus said that this was not a one time shot, but that we must continue in Him to have life eternal (John 15:6).
Just as in a grape vine, the vine brings to the branch everything that is needed to produce fruit, but the frmt is produced by the branch. In verse 2 of this chapter we read, "Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit." Again, notice the action is continual action and not just a one time shot. If you are producing fruit you are abiding in the vine. If you are not producing the fruit of the Spirit (2 Peter 1:4-8), look where Jesus said you would be in the above verse. Are you abiding in the vine? Your fruit will answer this question!
