Mother's Day

by Paul D. Fisher   May 9 04

Today, is Mother's Day and it is a wonderful time for us to stop whatever we are doing and give a prayer of thanks to our Creator for making mothers. Have you ever stopped to think about how much your mother has done for you throughout your life? If you are 18 years old and if your mother cooked you meals three times a day that would be 19,710 meals. That's a lot of meals and if you are like me you even had a few snacks thrown in to boot. Now, if you figure, on average, an hour to prepare a meal and clean up after it that is the equivalent of 821 days your mom spent in the kitchen cooking and cleaning up after you. Meals are just one aspect of all that our mothers have done, or are doing, for us. Not only do they cook, but they clean and wash our clothing and all kinds of other useful things. Yet, with all that they do mothers also seem to have time to help us when we are hurt or just need a hug.
They even find time to read stories to us when we are little! The most important thing that mothers can do for their children is to teach them about God. They teach by example, by bringing their children to Bible classes and worship services. In the Bible we find that the godly mother is a true blessing, not only to her children but also",
to her husband as well. For we read in Proverbs 31:27-3 l, "tier ehUdren arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praisetE Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gules.

I would like to pay tribute to all women who are godly wives, mothers, grandmothers and great grand mothers.
M - a godly mother is first a help meet for her husband.
0 - a godly mother is overflowing with true love.
T - a godly mother is always true and you can count on her to stand by you.
H - a godly mother is always a help in time of need.
E - a godly mother earnestly seeks her children's best interest.
R - a godly mother has a reverent attitude towards God.

A godly mother is someone to be admired, loved and someone that all society should
respect. Without godly mothers very few of us would have turned out the way we have.
Godly mothers take time to help train their children in God's ways and precepts. May we all
ask a special blessing for our mothers!
