Memorial Day
Paul D. Fisher

Memorial Day in America, was established in 1868, as a way to try and reunited this country after the
War between the states. It was a day in which those who lost loved ones on both sides of that horrific
war could come together to mourn their losses! Later it became a day, in which, not just those who
were killed fighting for their country were honored, but all those who had died. It is a day in which
many people will go to cemeteries and place flowers on the graves of their loved ones who have gone
on to their reward. For many it is a day for the family to get together, for a cookout, or a trip to the
lake, or some other place. It is a day in which we can teach our children and grandchildren about
those who died before them. It is a day for remembering! That is what a memorial is all about. That is
why God told the children of Israel to take stones out of the Jordan River when they went across and
built a memorial out of them. When their children or grandchildren asked them about those stones,
when they saw them, it was an excellent time to teach them about God. Yesterday, Christians
celebrated a memorial of the death of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, when we took the communion!
God knew it was important for us to remember what it cost Him to pay for our sins, His Son, Jesus!
May we always remember those who have gone before us and honor them each day of our lives! May
God bless us as daily we remember Him and His Son by living our lives in faithful obedience to His
will. May God bless each and everyone who receives this message!
