Light

by Paul D. Fisher  April 25, 04

In the New Testament the word "light" is used in two ways: (1) that of natural light as seen by the eye; and  (2) of spiritual light. The importance of natural light, or physical light, is well known, in fact, without light nothing would grow. Since spiritual light, for the most part, is unseen by our normal eyes it goes unnoticed. In fact, without God's word revealing it to us we would have no knowledge of it at all. Yet, as important as natural light is for our well being, the spiritual light is more important because it reveals important truths about God, our creator.

Spiritual light is the glory of God's dwelling place (1Timothy 6:16). In 1 John 1:5, this spiritual light is revealed
as the very nature of God. God is spoken of as the illuminator of His people in Isaiah 60:19-20, just as Jesus is
spoken of as being the illuminator of men in John 1:4. Even God's word, the Bible, is said to be light in Psalm 119:105. Our very salvation is called "His marvelous light" in 1 Peter 2:9. Plus, as Christians we look forward to the day in which sunlight will be eternally replaced with the light of God's glorious presence (Revelation 21:11). Today, a dim reflection of this light can be seen in the faithful followers of God. This light, I like to think of as "Son light!" It is the light that is given off by Christians as they go about doing good works! Do you have "Son light" in your life?
