JESUS: THE ALPHA AND OMEGA

 by Paul D. Fisher

During His life on earth, Jesus had many titles such as the Son of man as used in Matthew 9:6, "And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head" Also, He was called the Son of God as in John 1:34, where John the lmTnerser declared about Jesus, "And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God '

It is interesting to note that the title used as the title for this article is found only in the book of Revelation. The words "alpha" and "omega" are Greek words for the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet and this is seen in the use of this title. "Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: .... "(Revelation l:ll) We also learn something of the significance of this titled in reference to Jesus in Revelation 1:8, "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. ' Here Jesus declared that He was the beginning of time and creation as we know it and the last. In other words, He is the creator and He is an eternal being. He is the past (which was), the present (which is) and He is the furore (which is to come) All this He summed up in the title "the Almighty." Indeed, Jesus is the first and the last, the beginning and the ending, and He is the one who extends to you eternal life (Revelation 21:6).
