"Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God" (John 20:17).
The words above, Jesus spoke to Mary Magdalene after His resurrection. In these words Jesus revealed something very special about our relationship to God. Not only is God creator, but He is also our Father. This happens through our adoption through Jesus Christ (Galatians 4:4-6). We are no longer servants, because servants were never allowed to use the term "abba" when addressing their master. In Romans 8:15-16 we find, "For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:"
This term, "Abba, Father", shows that we now have a new and very special relationship with our Creator. The word "Abba" was one of the words little Jewish children first learned to speak. It carries the idea of "unreasoning trust" and is seen in the trust little children have in their fathers. Plus, the term "father" expresses the love and intelligent confidence of children in their parent. Is God your Father?
