ARE YOU MADE IN THE IMAGE OF GOD?
by Paul D. Fisher

In Genesis 1:27, we read, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." This has been a verse that has puzzled mankind for many hundreds of years. In what way did God create mankind that they are made in His own image?  Some people wonder if God created Adam,
the first man, to be a physical representation of Himself. Others think that in the image of God means that mankind has a soul, since God gave mankind souls. One way that we can see that mankind was created in the image of God is in the fact that mankind, of all God's creation was created a responsible being.
For many people, being responsible for themselves is not a popular concept. We have lived far too long in a society that has wanted to blame someone or something else for whatever we have done. One day all people will stand before God in judgment and many will come to a shocking realization that they are going to held accountable for their lives. They are not going to have anyone else to blame for what they have done, or not done, when they stand before God. God creato:l us to be responsible for our actions. We are not like the animals that God created that are controlled by animal instinct. Animals cannot help but act the way they do, but man has a choice in how he acts. This is called "freewill." Each individual has a choice to make in this life, either to learn and obey God's will, or ignore or reject God, but whatever we do we will be responsible for our choice. We read in Hebrews 9:27, And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: God is a responsible being and He created man in this image, an image of Himself that is responsible for what we do. How are you handling being created in the image of God? Remember, whether you like the concept or not, you are responsible for what you do, what you say and even what you think! Plus, one day you will give an account of your life and the choices you have made before God and what you have done or not done will determine your eternal destination!
