In John 4:46-53 we find an interesting event that happened when Jesus returned to Cana of Galilee. There was a certain unnamed nobleman from Capernaum whose son was sick, even to the point of death, and this man went to Cana to ask Jesus to come and heal his son. In verse 50 it says, "Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth." Jesus told the man in, other words, if you have faith enough to believe me, go home your son is going to be alright.
Now to the above title, would you have faith to go away if this had been your son? Only each person who reads this article can answer that question, no one can answer it for you. What assurance had Jesus given this man that his son was healed? None, in fact John wrote in verse 54 of this chapter, "This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come oat of Judaea into Galilee." This was only the second miracle that Jesus performed in Galilee, so this man did not base his faith on Jesus' word because he had seen Jesus heal many other people. This man must have based his faith on Jesus' word because of who he thought Jesus was. We read agaln in verse 50 of this man's faith, "And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way."
Whatever this man based his faith on he had enough faith to go back home. This man's faith was rewarded because as he went his way he met some of his servants who had good news, his son was better. When this man asked his servants when his son got better, they told him yesterday at the seventh hour. This was the very time that Jesus had told the man to go home that his son lived. This reaffirmed to this man his belief in Jesus so much so that he told everyone of his household and they all believed in Jesus.
