CONVENIENCE OR CONVICTION
 by Paul D. Fisher-- June 2, 2002

Convenience is defined as "1. suitableness; 2 personal comfort and ease; 3. a laborsaving device; 4 a suitable time." For many people, the word convenience would describe their idea of how to worship God. When it is suitable, they willl worship. As long as the building affords them personal comfort, neither too hot or too cold and easy access, they will attend; also that the building is not too far away from home and the church meets at a suitable time.
Conviction is defined as "1. the act of convicting; 2. the state of being convinced; 3 strong belief." Notice how few people in which the word conviction describes their idea of worship to God. They worship because they are convicted that God deserves and desires to be worshiped as He has commanded in John 4:24. They worship God because they are m a state of being convinced that worship is an act they do toward God. They worship God in spirit and in truth, just as GOd has conmmnded, because they are acting on strong belief. It does not matter to them if the church building is a little too hot or too cold or if they have a church building to meet in at all. They attend even if they have to travel great distances to worship with other Christians each time the doors are opened.
Convenience or conviction, which word describes the way you worship God? A lot can be said by looking at the numbers of those who attend Sunday morning and then do not retum until the next Sunday morning. Does that type of Christianity show tree conviction on their part or worship of convenience?
