When we face the storms of life, as God's children we can face them with calm assurance that our Heavenly Father is in control. God being in control does not mean that bad things, like illness or destruction of property, does not happen to His children. What it does mean is that when we know that God works all things for good to them that love and obey Him (Romans 8:28), then we can face these things looking for that which is good. Sometimes when we are in the midst of these storms it is hard to look for that which is good.
This week, my family has begun to enter into one of these storms of life. Phyllis has been diagnosed with cancer, and as the storm rages around us, I have already seen some good from it. Once more the shortness of life has been rnade real to us and you might be thinking, "How can that be a good thing?" It is a good thing because it caused me to realize once again just what a wonderfid wife God has blessed me with. It is a good thing in that it reminds us just how precious is the bond of love that we have for one another. Another good thing is the great response of our brethren, with prayers, phone calls and visits.
This storm continues to rage and I know that there will be dark days ahead, but through it all we can have calm assurance that God is there and He is in control!
"And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm"
