Paul & Silas Didn't Sing The Blues!

In Acts 16, while on a missionary journey, Paul and Silas were brought before the magistrates of the city of Philippi for casting a demon out of a servant girl. They were accused of breaking the law and were beaten with many stripes and placed in jail. The jailer put them into the inner cell of the jail and put their feet in stocks. There they were, away from their friends, their backs bleeding from the beating they took and in a very uncomfortable position all because they were doing God's will.

Even in this condition, Paul and Silas did not complain nor sing the blues. Instead, we read in Acts 16:25, "And at midnight Paul and $ilas prayea~ and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them." What an unusual sound that must have been to those guards and prisoners who heard Paul and Silas. How could these men do such a thing? They put their troubles in perspective, they had placed their treasures in heaven and they put their trust in God!

It is easy to sing praises to God when we are in worship and things are going well in our lives, but can you sing praises to God when things are going wrong in your life? Will you rock your house or car with songs of praise to God when things are going bad or will you just be singing the blues?
