Barnabas Exhorted

In Acts 4:36-37, we are introduced to a remarkable man named Barnabas. "And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and !aid it at the apostles'feet." Barnabas was an exhorter, he was one of those men who could always encourage others by words and by his example.

We next run into Barnabas in Acts 9:27, "But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.' It was Barnabas who took Saul to the apostles in Jerusalem to help convince them that Saul was indeed a disciple of Jesus.

In Acts 11:23, we once again find Barnabas, this time being sent to Antioch to check on the congregation there. "Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord" Later, Barnabas was chosen by the Holy Spirit, along with Saul, to go on the first missionary journey, no doubt in part because of his ability to exhort and encourage others to greater service to God.
