At 9:30 a.m. on Friday the first group of missionaries
from this congregation left for the airport in Springfield bound for Lima,
Peru. This group arrived in Lima around 1:30 a.m. Bob, Kay, Terry &
Ruth made up this first group and they are going to be working with the
congregation that we worked with last year. Juan Nima is the evangelist
at this congregation called the Zancudo Alto Church of Christ. As a result
of last years' campaign this congregation grew by 46 souls in the week
that we were there. This is in a very poor area of Lima, a city of over
8 million people. Almost everyone who is working in this area is supporting
three to four other family members. Last year, over 2,000 people came through
the clinic during the week that we were there. They had all kinds of ailments
including advanced TB. For the most part, these are very friendly people
who welcome strangers into their homes with open arms. Many of the people
allowed us to enter into their homes and study the Bible with them. When
some of the people who went through the clinic found out that we were part
of the church of Christ they asked questions that led to several Bible
studies right then and there. It is our hope and prayer to God that many
more souls will be reached this year in this area because of the campaign
going on this week. Please keep Bob, Kay, Terry & Ruth in your prayers
this week and also the hearts of the people they come in contact with that
much spiritual good will be done.
Also remember that next Friday the second group will be leaving to go to Ica, Peru. Terry, Verba, Lacey Herman, Phyllis and myself will be making up this team and we will meet with the first group and go on together. More about this trip next week!
